History of Zanjan:
The city of Zanjan is mostly attributed to Ardeshir Babakan Sassanid. Hamdollah Mostofi writes that after the construction of this city, Ardeshir Babakan called it Shahin or Shahin (meaning attributed to the Shah). In Dehkhoda's dictionary, it is stated in Shahin's headline: Shahin is the name of Zangan city and its meaning is Zanjan. It was a big city between Rey and Azerbaijan. With the passage of time, the living became Zangan and with the arrival of Islam in Iran, the name of Zangan to Zanjan was changed. The conquest of Zanjan was carried out by the Arabs during the caliphate of Uthman and by the Arab general Barab Ibn Azib, and during this period, Zangan was a prosperous and prosperous city. In the Islamic period, it was considered a part of the Jabal region or Ajam Iraq.
In the fourth and fifth centuries AH, Zanjan, due to its vast pastures, was considered by Turkic tribes and various Turkic tribes settled in Zanjan and its different areas, especially in the grass of Soltanieh.
During the Mongol invasion, the city of Zanjan and the surrounding settlements were severely damaged. But the Mongol ilkhans paid much attention to this city. In particular, Sultan Mohammad Khodabandeh, since he accepted the Shiite religion, tried to develop this area and paved the way for it to become an Islamic center, after which it soon became one of the important centers of politics and trade.
Zanjan has been an independent province since the end of the Afshari period with the title of Khamseh province. There are two theories about the name of Khamseh: 1- Due to the existence of five regions, including Zanjanrood, Abharrood, Ijroud, Sajasrud and Bazinehrood. 2- The second reason that could be close to reality was the existence of five tribes in this region, including Afshar, Moghadam, Osanloo, Bayat and Khodabandehloo.
The history of Zanjan in the following centuries also reports various political events. The city has witnessed political, social and religious events such as the uprising of Mullah Mohammad Ali attributed to Babia, the Constitutional Revolution, the invasion of the landlord system, the conflict of the democrats of Azerbaijan, and so on. Although some of these events have brought nothing but cultural, economic and social hardships to the people of this city, but the colonial culture has never penetrated in this city and the vast majority of people still remain steadfast in maintaining their religious and traditional rituals. . This region was the birthplace of great people such as Sheikh Shahabuddin Suhrawardi and famous scholars such as Mirza Abolghasem Mojtahed, Hakim Hidaji, the head of a municipality such as Ali Akbar Khan Tawfiqi (mayor), famous poets such as Hussein Manzavi who are the pride of Iranian and Islamic culture.
