The first mayor of Zanjan

The old man was so straight and sincere that after seventy years, his honesty can be clearly seen from his unretouched black and white photo.

A brown mahout coat, a simple Kazakh hat, a collarless gray shirt, which is buttoned up to the end, and a very innocent and pleasant smile, which sits on his large but beautiful lips, if you cannot recognize its simplicity, it is a very strong stand. which shows his balanced stature much more elongated, it definitely proves that this man, just as much as he needs, is self-sufficient and deals with the affairs of the municipality more than he can.

This noble mayor, who is the crowning glory of the mayors of the world, and I am sure that if Victor Hugo knew that after him, such a municipality would appear in the city of Zanjan, he would have offered him the mercy of the poor. If old men miss their youth and remember fondly the days of the past, and the environment and honesty of that time, it is due to the services of such people.

The late Haj Ali Akbar Tawfighi was born in Zanjan city in 1251 AH. He spent his childhood and adolescence in his hometown and learned the common lessons of his time in the schools of the city.

At a young age, he went to Baku to work and worked in the coal mine of that area, and his planning talent and foresight allowed him to have many facilities in Baku with a monthly salary of three rials. But after some time, when the Bolsheviks came to power, he was expelled from Baku, and before leaving for Iran, he went to Karbala to visit the shrines of the Most High, and after the pilgrimage, he returned to his homeland.

Around the year 1300 A.H., during the time of Ahmad Shah Qajar, he was employed as the head of Zanjan Municipality (municipality at that time).

The late Tawfighi was arrested by the operatives of the Tudeh party during the time of the Azarbaijan uprising on November 28, 1324 A.H. and remained in the captivity of the Tudeh party for three months.

Simultaneously with his release, the people of the city poured into the streets and sacrificed sheep to welcome their beloved mayor. This caused the party to panic and 24 hours after his release, they stormed his house because they couldn't find him and took two of his children hostage, named Mukhtar and Ahmed, when the deceased learned about the incident, he introduced himself and after a In the month of captivity, they were finally martyred by Tudeh people along with three other people in the evening of Wednesday 29 March 1324 in Zanjan match factory.

During his one-month captivity, the late Tawfighi converted a fellow Christian named Edward, who was influenced by his behavior and propaganda, and changed his name to Ali, who was also martyred along with the late Tawfighi. The people of the city buried the holy body of that noble man as was his honor and buried him in the cemetery above and according to his will, next to Ali "Edward": Hajj Ali Akbar Tawfighi has two sons, the late Ahmed and Deceased Mukhtar and a daughter named Zebande, who was a good benefactor and built a bathhouse and a mosque in the village of Pahn Jouk:
